steady parade field notes
I broke one of my rules this week.
I worked past 8 pm. Two nights in a row. And that’s not what I had in mind for myself when I started this thing!
And I figured out why everything is thrown off: it's a short week in the middle of a heat wave.
My longest project (a 16-month relationship) ended last week, and a new project started this week. It’s a season of completions and beginnings. It feels pretty fitting that it's a new moon today, the start of a new cycle.
I've been observing patterns, cycles that aren’t linear or predictable.
As much as we'd love to see a graph that's always up and to the right, that's just not how business is. And it's definitely not how it is as a solopreneur. There are so many more ebbs and flows when you're running the show.
This period feels like the beginning of a movie you know nothing about. And in many ways, I'm really grateful for the opportunity to begin again.
I've noticed my business cycles defy any calendar. In corporate life, we plan based on the quarters. Every file says something like “Q1” or “2H26.”
Time works a lot different out here in solopreneur land.

Just as you reach a point of stability, it all kind of gets torn down again. I fantasize about a steady build, but the only thing that’s been constant is this cycle of demolition and construction.
This week’s been about deconstructing a work week: making do with four days instead of five.
I’ve also been experiencing the time warp that happens through delegation.
I've been working with a VA for two weeks, and they set up a whole funnel in two hours. Landing page, tripwire, thank-you page, all the automations, all the emails. It blew my mind how something I’ve been thinking about for months became real before lunchtime.
If words like “funnel” and “tripwire” sound scary, don’t worry, you don’t need to know what any of that is. Now that my system is built, I have no excuse not to share. So you'll be hearing from me soon about a workshop I'll be hosting virtually.
It's for anyone who's tired of the pressure to constantly be posting, creating content that feels forced and out of alignment with their creativity.
It's for anyone who's tired of feeling like their efforts are disconnected, or like they're not really seeing a return on social media posts.
You can't just post and hope that it's going to magically bring people in. You have to create the pathway.
That's why I've adopted the title of “systems builder” rather than just a consultant. I'm not just going to step in, point out a few things, and walk away. I want to create a system that works whether or not I'm there—and whether or not the business owner or CEO is there.
Even while you’re still getting to know your own business/creative cycles, you deserve to have a system in place that supports your goals.
MARKETING MINIS
running through quicksand
Marketing Minis is the part of the show where I invite you to take some action. Sometimes marketing related, always illuminating.
If you’ve been feeling like you’re falling behind, here’s your permission to pause.
this week’s mini: Take a look at your calendar, your P&L (or your bank account). What cycles are you noticing in your business? When do things speed up? When do you feel like you’re trying to run through quicksand?
The time warp that’s happening right now is trippy, so give yourself some grace.
THE BOOKSHELF
the godfather
I was going through it over the last couple weeks (I blame eclipse season), and my husband (bless him) was like, “I think you need to listen to this. It’ll explain why you’re feeling this way.”
I turned this Diary of a CEO episode on and I felt so seen.
Which is funny given that Alex Hormozi, is kind of the godfather of the bro marketers that I often position myself against.
His approach comes with a whole lot of masculine energy that I certainly cannot match. But the thing that keeps me tuning in is his really simple and time-tested business advice.
People love to hate on the Hormozis, but if you have any interest in making money through a successful business, you gotta listen up.
There are so many gems of wisdom throughout the episode, so if you’re wondering if it’s time to push through or throw in the towel, he shares exactly how to approach the most challenging seasons of business.
I’d like to give an honorable mention to Leila Hormozi’s video on emotionally detaching and not caring what people think (good or bad).
Her 5-step framework:
Ignore applause
Reframe criticism
You will always be judged
Choose your values
Values are your filter
If you need someone to help you snap out of self-critical loops or comparison to others, this video is for you.
If you’re feeling like you’re starting from scratch this week, same. The detours are part of the path too (even if they weren’t on the roadmap).
Stay Steady,
Molly
P.S. Reply and tell me: what cycle are you in right now? Building, deconstructing, or somewhere in between?
